The Dream - Jessica

I had no idea where I was going, but I kept moving anyways. All I knew for sure was that I had to keep following this boy. There was just something about him - the look in his eyes. He seemed like he was hurt - like he was in pain - and he seemed like he really wanted me to see whatever it was. As I got out of my chair and followed him, the house slowly started to fade away. It was as though I had been translated to a entirely different world. I found myself in some sort of rainforest, but this was different from the ones I had frequently seen on NatGeo - at least, it wasn't as colorful or bountiful. I knew something about this wasn't right, but my curiosity overpowered my sense of reason at that moment. As I continued going after him, I kept going deeper into the forest which was starting to look more like the forests I was familiar with from TV. Suddenly, the boy disappeared, and I was left all alone, but instead of being afraid, I just kept moving in the direction the boy had been leading me. I hadn't moved on for much longer saw a hooded figure standing over a corpse. The creature flashed me a look, and for a moment, I saw its face. I turned around to run away and then, I woke up.

"How long have you been having these dreams now?"

"Last night was the third consecutive night. I really don't know what to make of them"

"Dreams are a reflection of our subconscious. You must have been thinking lately about stuff related to that"

"But Lori, you know how my dreams are"

"Jessy, I'm really sorry, but I just don't think it is possible for anyone to predict the future. You just have to be rational here"

"Lori, you've always been there for me, but I need you to believe me now. I know something significant is going to happen soon, and I have a feeling it won't be pleasant"

"Well, you said that the setting of your dreams was a rainforest, and we're a bit short of those in this part of the world. So, unless you're planning to travel to Africa or something, I think you should have no cause for alarm."

Lori Sanders had been my best friend since high school, and we shared a lot of experiences, but she never believed anything that seemed extraordinary, like me seeing the future in my dreams. Somehow, her biting sarcasm didn't get to me. I was still worried, but I had to admit to myself that there was truth in what she said. There was no way I would find myself in a rainforest if I didn't travel, and travelling was the last thing on mine or my husband's mind at that moment, so I had to convince myself that there really was no cause for alarm. I stayed on in Lori's apartment a while longer before I started heading home. I was cooking dinner that evening and I wanted it ready before Peter got home.

When I got home, I prepared a meal of meatballs and spaghetti - Peter's favorite. When he came home that evening, he told me that he had very exciting news for me. I was anxious and wanted to hear it immediately but he said I had to wait till after dinner. When we had finished eating, he took my hands, and looked intensely into my eyes. At that moment, the rate of my heartbeat tripled. The only other time this had happened was when he asked me to marry him five years ago. I knew this was really important, and I couldn't wait to hear it. Then, after what seemed like ages, he finally spoke.

"Pack your bags honey, we're leaving for Africa"
